Art in Love Jones

Many movies feature characters who have special talents, but in Love Jones the main characters had talents that match their personalities and helped kindly romantic relations ships. Darius Lovehall (Larenz Tate) a poet from New York who traveled to Chicago for a small vacation ran into Nina Mosley (Nia Long), a inspiring Photographer. Nina had recently separated from her fiance and was trying to find her purpose in the world. Then Darius comes along and they meet at an upscale Chicago Night Club that features poetry and jazz.

Darius's poetry resembles his personality it is suave, smooth and captivating. He uses words eloquently and with conviction, he lures in unsuspecting listeners and he has the enchanted by his style which is very urban and raw but yet it is also tamed. His poetry is dirty but yet its sensual and filled with illusions.

Nina's photography expresses the way she sees the world. It shows the pain and agony she had once felt but it also shows a lot of happiness and strength by her depictions of hard work.

The music that is featured through out most of the movie is mainly jazz instrumentals like Charlie "Bird" Parker, and John Coltrane's In a Sentimental mood. The music works with the film since its set in an Black urban community of poets, painters, and musicians who gather to talk about the secrets to life, love and relationships.
All the different forms of art come together to express individual characters emotions and outlook on life. The music, the poetry, and the lighting all come together to make this movie have a sensual feel, a feel of longing for love and a good relationship and also of sex.

Great Acting!!

One great actor in my opinion would be Denzel Washington. He's a man that can be the lead character in just about any type of role. He has been one of Hollywood's greatest actors for the past two decades.

He has been in multiple movies and has many awards. He one and Oscar for his performance in Training Day when he played a crocked cop named Detective Alonzo Harris. He also won an academy award for Best supporting actor in 1991's Glory, where he played a runaway slave who became a soldier Pvt. Trip.

In all of his roles even ones where he played famous people such as Malcolm X, Steve Biko, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, and Coach Herman Boone Denzel Washington has always been able to bring tons of emotion to his characters. He is one outstanding actor who makes the best out of all the characters he has ever played.

He is a charmer that's for sure, and every one knows his name Denzel. His acting abilities are superb. He has a smile that mesmerizes women every where. His personality is smooth and subtle.

Head of State Trailer

Head of State

It's about time that the Movie Head of State became a reality! OBAMA!

But seriously the movie Head of State was about the United States having its first Black President. Mays Gilliam who was played by Chris Rock, and Bernie Mac was Gilliam's over bearing, insensitive, abusive, but knowledgeable older brother Mitch Gilliam.

The combo of comedic heavy weights paved the way for a hilarious movie. There were all types of antics involving Rock trying to avoid assassination and trying to have him avoid being true to himself. Rocks character was from the streets of D.C. and was chosen so he could loose the elections and make it easier for another Democrat to fun for office.

The movie is full a crazy scenarios where Rock changes his imagine from that of someone dressed in a suit and tie to a man wearing a RocaWear jean suit with timberland boots and big platinum chains. Even his ad campaign commercials had video vixens and a Dj.
The movie was funny and entertaining, but it also did have speeches in it that would make the audience think about policies in the country, and how some may need to be changed.

CB4 n' Don't Be a Menace

What's happened? Where did movies like CB4 short for Cell Block 4 and Don't be a Menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood movies go? These movies may be classics in a category of their own. A category I'm going to name Hood Classics... Since they're movies that every one has seen in the "hood", they bring a funny side to "the harsh reality of the hood."

Sometimes during certain parts of the movie there are serious scenes that try to convince audience members that acting a certain way is wrong, and that people should take responsibility for their actions. Just sometimes you can forget what was trying to be a social commentary on peoples lifestyles when a baby with head the size of a mans complete with facial hair yells "Message" from its crib.

Also some actors had gained great fame from playing rolls like MC Gusto, who was played by a young Chris Rock in CB4. Also the Wayan's brothers Shawn and Marlon had leading roles in Don't be a menace.

There needs to be a new "Hood Classic", something like CB4 which poked fun at the west coast group N.W.A. changing one of their hits Straight Outta Compton into Straight Outta Lowcash. These type of movies were just fun to watch because they were so ridiculous and if you know exactly who and what situations people are making fun of then the movie becomes very memorable.

My favorite scene is from Don't Be a Menace was when Bernie Mac is mimicking a cop from the movie Boyz N the Hood. A cop who was an African-American and was overly dramatic with how much he hated things that were Black.

We need a new hood classic movie, especially now that the music style and fashion style has changed and how there was a dance craze going on for years with artist like Soulja Boy tell 'em, and Dem Franchize Boyz.

Sexual Exploitation of Women in Film: Princess And The Frog

A New Princess!

A new Disney movie! Awesome! The Princess And The Frog. A new princess, too! In more ways than one!

We meet "Princess" Tiana who doesn't want a prince. She doesn't want true love. She's an aspiring entrepenuer. Yes, independent female... workaholic... a waitress, in the '20's. Yes... 1920's!

Like most "princesses", she is fatherless. But... it's her mother who wants her to meet prince charming... her mother wants her to dance into her "happily ever after"... her mother wants her to become a princess. She wants grandkids after all!

Tiana, our New Orleans "princess", has a different dream. A dream she shared with her father. To own their own restaurant. Wow! What a twist from our typical princesses, huh? Too bad she turns into a frog.

Then, of course the fairy tale kicks in. "Mama Odie" tries to help the princess and prince frogs discover what's most important. (Mama Odie is only one of the many magnificent characters of the film.) Learning a valuable lesson is the only way the frogs can become human again.

What a movie! The Princess And The Frog goes beyond entertaining value. The "New Orleans flavor" is delightful... from the music and characters, to the production and quality. A fairytale "must see" for all!

As for female sexual exploitation? Watch the movie, you be the judge!

30 Second Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes

This movie can best be described in three words...
"eh, it's alright."

The movie stars Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, with Jude Law as his trusty sidekick Watson. The duo actually work very well together and have quite a bit of chemistry.

The only problem is that their on screen time is lost in the sometimes overly confusing plot.

Though the movie is still entertaining, viewers can get the sense that the makers of this movie tried to pack as much stuff into this film as humanly possible.

In the end it's a good movie, but not great.

C+

The Good: Good cast and action packed.
The Bad: A little too long and a little too much.
The Ugly: Why is London always so dreary?

Last Note: This movie would have been better if it were starring...
Kim Young.

This movie gets a B-/B from me for multiple reasons. The first is that the movie itself as a whole is pretty decent the plot line could have been more developed along with character development and character relations, but over all it was a movie that I enjoyed watching.

The affects in the movie were really good. This isn't the 3-D version I'm talking about but the regular movie. I would get into details about characters that were made out of special effects but I don't want to tell people who is in the movie. Lets just say her character moved very well for half of her body begin snake-like.

My only complaint it that some of the God's on Olympus I feel didn't play as big a role as they could have. Also their relationships with one another weren't developed as best they could be.

I recommend going to see Clash of the Titans. Its pretty good movie with good action scenes. It might be even better in 3-D but I guess I have to see that for myself.

Couples Retreat: WATCH IT TWICE!!!

Here is an example of a movie that NEEDS to be watched twice. The first time I watched Couples Retreat, I put it in my "stupid" movie file. I later decided to give it one more try, only this time I watched it with two guys. It was then and only then that I realized the true hilariousness of this film.

The movie begins with a couple, Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell), who is considering divorce begging their friends, three other couples, to go away on a vacation that could essentially save their marriage. The friends reluctantly give in, deciding that a relaxing vaction would be a perfect opportunity to sleep-in, lay out, and enjoy doing nothing.

Upon their arrival at the resort, they are sent to the WEST side of the Eden Resort, other known as the couples side. That night, the Eden's host, Sctanley (Peter Serafinowicz ) informs the couples that they have to engage in couples therapy or they will be sent home!

They spend the next six days enduring "expert" Marcel's (Jean Reano) odd methods of couples therapy, which ultimate will make or break their relationships.

This movie... is hilarious is you watch it with the right people.

Other couples include:

Dave (Vince Vaughn) and Ronnie (Malin Akerman)

Joey (Jon Favreau) and Lucy (Kristin Davis); and

Shane (Faizon Love) and Trudy (Kali Hawk).

The most hilarious of characters goes to (Carlos Ponce) who plays Salvadore, the sexy, muscular yoga instructor who spends his days in a speedo.

This movie must be watched at least twice to be appreciated! Overall, B+!! :)

The New Karate Kid?

The 1984 classic "The Karate Kid" starring Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio is going to be remade with Jackie Chan and Jaden Christopher Syre Smith.

I don't think I'm going to be a fan of the remake. The 84 Karate Kid was one of my favorite movies as a kid and then the other 2 Karate kid's after were still pretty good, well I mean in a little kids eyes.

I just don't know how well the remake of the original will be. It's going to be hard task to come up with a line that every one knows like " wax on wax off ".

This is one movie that I think the remake just wont live up to the expectations of the original and its just going to be a let down for people who have seen the original.

Then also Mr. Miyagi was Japanese and now Mr. Han or Jackie Chan is Chinese, so what are Asian material interchangeable? I just think that the original Karate Kid movies were great the way they were, but that's just me.

Sexual Exploitation of Women in Film: Listen to Disney

When you looked at "Is Disney Guilty Too" did you also listen? Snow White sings "whistle while you work." She's joyful and happy. Doing laundry, washing dishes, and cleaning.... Really!

She says she thinks the filthy cottage of the dwarfs belongs to children. If she cleans it, she thinks they'll let her stay. They do, of course. They're seven bachelors, why not? At first, Grumpy hesitates... then he discovers she can cook... she can stay.

But don't worry, Snow White has lots of friends. You know, birds, mice... cute, little, fuzzy forest creatures. They palled around with most of the old Disney girls like Snow White and Cinderella.

These girls were cut off from society. Both missing fathers. Both had evil stepmothers. Both "objectified". Well, that was the old Disney. Those were the times. I loved Disney movies then, love them now. They were imaginative and creative.

Things have changed for women. Things changed at Disney, too!

Years later Ursula, the sea witch from The Little Mermaid, sets things straight. She tells Arial, "Don't underestimate the importance of body language." She says, "The men out there don't like a lot of blabber...it's she who holds her tongue who gets a man."

Hollywood's Biggest Crime: Remakes

I just want to ask one simple question. If a movie is good enough to be a classic, why is it then remade it to something so bad that it shouldn't even be shown at 3 in the morning on basic cable? It seems like every movie I have ever liked has now been remade, or is going to be remade.

Here is a list of the crimes against humanity:
  • Halloween- The original was a classic. It was suspenseful, and had a perfect amount of violence and terror to make it a great horror movie.

The Rob Zombie remake was just the opposite. All he did was add more violence, take out the suspense, and basically ruin the original for me.

  • The Day the Earth Stood Still- The original is masterpiece. For being made in 1951, it is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time.

The Keanu Reeves remake is just, just...just bad.

  • High Noon- A great western that had suspense and had a great shootout ending.

The made for TV remake made me sit there and just think...why!?!

  • Psycho- The Alfred Hitchcock original was full of mystery and for it's time was very edgy.

The remake was more like a shot for shot redo which begs the question, if your going to watch Psycho, why not just watch the original?

These are just a few but there are hundreds of remakes out there, with most of them being signifigantly worse than the original.

3D Fever

I'm going to make this short. 3D is driving me crazy. Everything has to be in 3D. Even TV's are going 3D. You can't watch a movie preview anymore without hearing ...3D, 3D, 3D! It's everywhere. I can't wait until this fad crashes and burns and 3D goes away for 10 years until somebody else brings it back again. And then again...and then again.

This blog is also displayed in 3D where available.

Sexual Exploitation of Women in Movies: Is Disney Guilty Too?

I love Disney movies! Grew up on Disney...try to keep up on Disney.

Look at the females characters of Disney. I mean, really look at them! Begin with the earlier movies. Much, much earlier... Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.

Female characters, similar features: long, flowing hair... perfect faces... big, round eyes... perfect brows. Perfect bodies. They were tall and thin, narrow waists. Long, flowing dresses and sometimes... showed a little bit of a neckline. (But no cleavage.)

Later, Disney hit the screen with some real "bombshells"! Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Jasmine from Alladin, and Pocahontas. Still beautiful...perfect in every way. But, their costumes........

Look at them: Ariel has only two seashells to cover the entire top half of her body. Yes, she is a mermaid after all. But her naked turso continues until it forms a very low, low, low cut "V", deep below her navel, until the top of her fin begins.

This same, seductive, low cut "V" is fashioned by Jasmine. With her suit pants. They also hang extremely low. And her top is more like an extravagant bra.

Pocahontas has a very skimpy top as well. It mysteriously stays on by only one strap. And her extremely short skirt is slit on both sides. The slit is cut almost to her waist!

These are just a few of Disney's characters. The Disney I love.

Is this what makes them a "family" movie? Something which ALL of us can enjoy? Is Disney just keeping up with the rest of the film industry? MORE FEMALE SKIN!

The film industry is often accused of sexual exploitaton of women. Is Disney guilty too? Perhaps Jessica Rabbit speaks for all these female Disney characters. She starred in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. One of my favorite movies. She said, "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way."

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief - Good idea, bad delivery

Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) is a high school student who, through a series of weird events, finds out that he is the son of Poseidon(Kevin McKidd) , the god of the sea. This makes Percy a demigod - half human, half god. At the same time that he finds out his true identity, the powerful gods on Olympus are fighting.

Someone has stole the "lightning bolt" which is the most power weapon of the gods.

The war between the gods stems from this and could ultimately launch a war that destroys the entire planet. It is then up to Percy, his protector Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and fellow demigod Annabeth(Alexandra Daddario) to find who stole the lightning bolt and get it back to the gods before the deadline set by Zeus(Sean Bean)

THIS MOVIE COULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD!

The plot was interesting, the concept was ellaborate and the creativity level was high, HOWEVER! . . . . .

The way the movie was delivered was. . . juvinelle. . . to say the least.

What's really ironic about this film, is that it is made by the same director as the Harry Potter movies!!!!! How can they make 7 amazing films about wizards and such and make this movie suck so bad?!?!

Needless to say, this movie was not worth 7.50 and should be seen at the dollar movie on a boring weeknight when you literally have nothing else to do.

Movie gets: a C-

Up In The Air: Hilarious and Tragic, Romantic and Real

This movie is unlike ninety five percent of other films you have seen before. We are used to: good guy-bad guy movies, romantic comedies that end with a kiss, and happy endings for the protagonist.

In the film Up In The Air, the "good" guy is also the bad guy, there's romance, but it doesn't end with a kiss, and the happy ending. . . . . well, it just doesn't exist.

This film revolves around the life of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney). He is a corporate downsizing expert who spends 322 days a year flying to different cities and staying in luxurious hotel suites. He's made it his life's goal to hit ten million frequent flyer miles and become the seventh member of the elite Mile High Club.

Just as he is approaching his goal, his boss hired an arrogant young girl named Natalie (Anna Kendrick) who has developed a method of video conferencing to terminate employment without ever leaving the office.

So, determined to prove her theory wrong and unethical, he takes Natalie across the country on one of his firing expeditions. It is then that he starts to realize the downfalls to the way he lives his life.

This film is exactly as the title describes. It's hilarious. It's tragic. It's romantic. It's real. It's everything you would get from any other movie, but in a more unique and realistic way. Without giving anything else away, i will leave you with my rating for this film. . . . A very well deserved "A+"!

COMING SOON!

Matt's Top Ten Greatest Sports Movies of all Time.

Which sports movie will be number one?

30 Second Movie Review: Green Zone

Action, Action and...oh yeah, more ACTION! Green Zone is an adrenaline filled thriller that stars Matt Damon as a soldier in the U.S. Army that searches for Weapons of Mass Destruction in a war torn Iraq.

With a fast pace and quick camera work, Green Zone ignites into a frenzied fireball right from the first scene to the closing credits.

Though many have complained about the film's anti-war statement, Green Zone is a film in which the viewer can forget about politics and enjoy some firefights and explosions.

Fans of any of the Bourne movies will enjoy this for sure.

The Good- Tremendous action.
The Bad- Little character development.
The Ugly-
Political theme might turn people off.

Overall- B+

Green Zone is rated R and is playing everywhere.

How all this SEX got started anyway. Exploitation history.

Once upon a time in Hollywood when films first started being made......

Moralists immediately began objecting. Too much nudity. Too much sexuality. Films had too much violence and criminality, too.

Censorship and control was in place. At various levels. But it was unorganized and inconsistent.

Some states prohibited a film to reveal an ankle. Yes, a naked ankle!

Or...Pregnancy. Pregnancy could not be mentoned, either.

Studios were worried they would be shut down. In 1922, the film industry formed Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). William H. Hays was elected head "Housekeeper" and his cleaning list began:

-banish the industry's scandalous Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle (or at least make the public think he's gone)

-approve morality clauses in actor's contracts

-regulate film content

In 1927 Hays' list of "Don'ts" included: suggestive nudity, sexual perversion, white slavery, sex hygiene and venereal diseases, and childbirth.....just to name a few.

But restrictions were ignored. Studios knew enforcement would still not be effective.

Audiences wanted to see what was being blacklisted. They paid to see the foridden "don'ts". And filmakers knew it. The shows went on.

Hence, "The Legion of Decency" in 1934. A creation of the American Catholic Church. Another attempt to censor films.

Again, Hollywood "redirected". This time disguising their prohibited sights as "educational works". Necessary to show "the evils" in order to educate. Educational exploitation.

One of the most successful of these films was Mom and Dad (1944). The movie is a teenage girl "in trouble". Other films were included within it showing childbirth, a caesarian, veneral diseases and their treatments. Very graphic images of female anatomy.

Mom and Dad still played at the drive-ins up into the '70's!

After WWII and by the 1950's the strict censorship declined. In 1952, Supreme Court decision Burstyn v. Wilson decided film would finally by freed from federal censorship.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) now has a voluntary ratings system in place by age classification (i.e., G, M, R, X). The Hays Code was abandoned officially in 1968.

Thereby opening the doors for films today. No longer needing to be called or presented as "educational". Film can be free to be what it wants. If it so chooses.....exploitational!"

And others, thankfully, will be entertaining and exceptional!

Nine: Singing. Sex. Scandals.

You are sure to find each of these in Nine.
This film is a musical.

The story revolves around Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), a famous film director who faces a mid-life crisis. He is hit with a creative block along with troubles in his personal life. Contini is balancing several women at once:

*his wife Luisa (Marion Cotillard),

*his mistress (Penelope Cruz),

*his film star muse (Nicole Kidman),

*his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench),

*an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson),

*the whore from his youth (Fergie), and

*his mother (Sophia Loren).

The film revolves around Contini's latest movie, "Italia", that he has yet to write a script for.

He escapes to a seaside resort to get away from the pressures of production and to try and write his script. While failing to do so, Contini thinks about the impact of all the women in his life.

I believe the highlight of this film was seeing all of the actresses sing and dance. Kate Hudson was the actress that stood out to me the most. Her song "Cinema Italiano" was by far my favorite performance in this film! I found it awesome that she stepped out of her comfort zone, of romantic comedies, to perform in this film.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who is into complex, interesting and symbolism filled movies. Or if you just like seeing girls dance in very little clothing.... anyways, I give Nine an "A"!

30 Second Movie Review: Cop Out

Cop Out can best be described in one word...funny. Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan work very well together and the supporting cast isn't too bad either.

With equal parts physical comedy and hilarious jokes, Cop Out is anything but a strike out. Just make sure not to bring the kids to see this one.

The Good - Funny throughout.
The Bad - Lack of deep story.
The Ugly - Jason Lee's chest hair. C'mon Man!

Overall - B

Cop Out is Rated R and is in theaters everywhere.

Do films by director Paul Verhoeven present evidence for sexual exploitation of women in America? Support may be found in a comparison of his movies.

You be the judge:

The Black Book is a 2006 thriller about a young Jewish woman, Rachel. It takes you to the Dutch underground in 1944.

Rachel is seeking revenge against the Nazi’s for her family’s murders. She changes her name and goes undercover for the resistance.

The trailer depicts thrilling action. And Rachel in negligee. She’s asked how far she’ll go and says, “You mean sleep with him?”

Nudity and sex are quite substantial in quantity but it is not overpowering. It skillfully accompanies the movie’s intense story line.

And it is not one-gendered. Yes, the men expose their frontals, too. More than once. It is a foreign film. Not American, it’s Dutch.

The Black Book is often compared to Basic Instinct. Another of director Paul Verhoeven’s films. For the United States. The trailer for Basic Instinct says it too was a blockbuster thriller.

Yet the trailer is basically a sexual dialogue between Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone. “No thrills.”

No action. No violence. Just sex.

Basic Instinct is known as a sexually perverse film. Controversial for its depiction of gays and women.

Yes, a thrilling plot. But… saturated with sex and nudity. Naked women. Lots. And lots. And lots…

…Oh….and no male frontal exposure. None.
Two movies. Two “thrillers.” Same director.

But….made for two different countries.

So you can’t help but wonder what happened during shooting of Basic Instinct?

“Yes!”……… “Good!”……“Great!” …….

“Wait!”…… “Stop!”----“Cut!”

“Oh, No! No. No. No. Not the men!”

Why? Is it because naked men aren’t on the big screen?

Not in America?...... Not normally?...... But it’s okay for women?

And the more the better? Maybe we need to review sexual exploitaion.

And You be the judge.

Law Abiding Citizen: "It's not what you know; it's what you can prove in court"

This line is the very essence of the movie Law Abiding Citizen.

Lawyers tend to get a very cynical view from the public. They have the reputation of being more interested in winning a case than serving justice for their clients.

This is how the film Law Abiding Citizen begins. Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is outraged by the ruling on two men who entered his house, one of which killed his wife and daughter.

After the Assistant DA Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) makes a deal with the criminals, Shelton cannot believe it. The murderer testifies against his partner to give him the death penalty, while he admits to 3rd degree murder himself.

He serves ONLY ten years in jail. So…

Ten Years go by.

Shelton is now ready to seek his revenge. He uses his brilliant planning and inventing skills to plot the deaths of not only the man who murdered his wife and daughter, but also any member of the legal system who had something to do with the case.

Yes. This is a movie. And yes. It is fiction.

However… the very injustice that was served in the film can be real. It is all too common that people who commit terrible crimes do not receive the proper punishment.

This movie is not only entertaining, but it’s easy to relate to. Anyone who has ever witnessed injustice first-hand would surely enough this film.

Or if you just like big explosions…

And The Award Goes To...

...who cares. In about a week, the Oscars will take place and ego driven actors will get yet another chance to showcase their favorite acts...themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I really like movies and if they are good enough then they should get an award. But everything that goes on around the awards is all wrong. Movies are a group effort, with writers, cameramen, etc. But who gets all the attention? and all the glory?...the actors.

Actors don't just get one award show, they get shows like the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and whatever MTV films for 3 hours. They get red carpet coverage and when they get to the award show, they get free gift bags as well. And why do they get this treatment? Because they pretend to be somebody for 2 hours.

If I sound bitter it's because I am. We praise actors who portray cops and firefighters more than the actual workers themselves. Actors who play cops also get paid more than 20 times what an actual cop makes in a whole year, which is no more than $75,000. And that would just be for a low paid actor.

That's backwards. People who put their life on the line everyday should not only be paid more, but given their own televised award shows as well. I really enjoy movies, but we need to put our priorities in the right place.

Remember Blaxploitation

This is where we talk about all the early Blaxploitation movies like Shaft, Super Fly and who can forget Pam Grier in Foxy Brown! In Blaxploitation there were many different types of movies from horror to coming of age movies like one of my favorites Cooley High.

These movies addressed issues in the Black community. They’re also just fun movies to watch since some of the can be so ridiculous. Some movies were just remade using a black cast and a slight change of the plot like Blacula. Most of the movies did have a lot of action and martial arts in them like Black Belt Jones or Coffy.

Blaxploitation gave rise to a lot of more serious movies like Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, or John Singleton’s Boyz N’ the Hood. Comedies also used the Blaxploitation to make parody movies like Undercover Brother and Pootie tang.

The Blaxploitation movies often had soundtracks full of soul and funk. Who can forget the theme so to Shaft?

My favorite I have to say is Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon. I love Leroy Green or Bruce Leroy and of course his nemesis Sho’nuff "The Shogun of Harlem” The ending could have had a better fight scene since “The Glow” appeared and it was the biggest fight between the two major characters, but as a whole ever since I first saw the movie as a 3 year old I just loved it and always wanted to obtain “The Glow”

“To reach that upper level,
your mind, body and soul must be one” – The Glow by Willie Hutch.

Leave post about your favorite Blaxploitation Movie.

Valentines Day : We hate it. We love it. We love to hate it.

February 14th brings about 3 types of people:
* Those who buy into the holiday,
* Those who do not and
* Those who take their hatred for the day to the extreme.
We see all three of these character types in the movie Valentine's Day.

A cliche marriage proposel, annoying teen love, long-term relationships, a mother's devotion, the single woman's heartache, love affairs and rejection are all subjects in this movie.

Because the movie is filled with A-list celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Jessica Biel, Patrick Dempsey and Ashton Kutcher, the acting is far from terrible. One of the actresses that deserves mentioning however,... is TAYLOR SWIFT.

BY FAR THE WORST MUSICIAN TURNED ACTRESS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!

Taylor Swift's character is a young, obnoxious teen in love with her high school track star boyfriend, played by Taylour Lautner. She takes annoying to an absurd, inane level that is too cliche to put in this movie.

Yes, the girl who pops her gum and says "like" a million times is how people often portray high school girls. However, Taylor Swift took it too far! SHE NEEDS TO STICK TO WHAT SHE CAN CONVINCE PEOPLE SHE IS GOOD AT... aka "beating" Beyoncé for Song of the year.

Despite the terrible acting on Swift's behalf, this movie is a decent date movie and is worth taking your significant other or just a friend to see. I would give it a solid "B".

Porky's paved the way for sex comedies. Maybe a remake could spark equal sexual exploitation in the movies.

Porky’s was a, if not the first, sex comedy. Characters with names like “Meat,” “Pee Wee” and “Ms. Ballbricker.” Teenage boys of the 1950’s aspiring to loose their virginity. The movie trailer entices you. It implies nudity and sex. With loads of laughter.

I was a teenager when Porky’s was released. The beginning of the 1980’s. Most parents equated Porky’s with taboo. Porky’s broke many barriers. But nudity and sex? Hardly. More like language and imagination.

We’ve come a long way since Porky’s. Or have we?

Today’s sex comedy is usually saturated with nudity and sex. But “nudity” is mostly one-sided. Naked women. A prime example is Good Luck Chuck .

Let’s imagine Porky’s was being remade. Achieving today’s standards:

-All topless dancers at Porky’s
-Girls in the shower would be naked
-Intensified sex scene with “Ms. Honeywell”

In other words, sexually exploit the women. But what about the men?

Sure 3 seconds of naked male buttocks would probably remain. But what about “Polly the penis”? Would you actually see the infamous “tally whacker with the mole?” Would the boys in the shower be naked too? Who knows?

I do know this. A Porky’s remake without a shot of the “tally whackers” would be just another sex comedy.

But……imagine a Porky’s remake with shots of all those “tally whackers.”

Parents might forbid their teenagers to see it. It may be labeled taboo. Offensive. A rewind to the ‘80’s. Another Porky’s breaking barriers.

Break barriers how? Because men would be equally sexually exploited as women are.

Transmorphers: Ripoff Movies in Disguise!

Thanks to the Syfy channel, I have now been exposed to some of the worst movies ever made. They seemingly enjoy showing awful movies that include titles such as Mansquito and Ice Spiders. But these movies do not compare to the films churned out by production company, The Asylum, which supplies many Syfy channel movies.

For some reason or another, they are able to take Hollywood blockbusters and put their own spin on them. Take Transformers for example. The Asylum takes their plot and then forms a similar title to capture some revenue from the originals popularity. Transmorphers, The Terminators, and AVH: Alien versus Hunter are only a few of their movies that have tried to cash in on.

The Asylum needs to stop before they do the unthinkable... rip off a movie like the Godfather.
